Dr. V.Ashok did his BTech Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram in 1987 and MTech in Aerospace engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1989. He joined Aerodynamics division of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in 1989 and has been working for the past three and half decades in the areas of aerodynamics, CFD code development and applications and chemically reacting flows. He obtained Doctorate from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in the year 2013.

He served as Group Director of Aerodynamics and Aerothermal group from 2012 to 2017 and as Deputy Director of Aeronautics Entity from 2017 to 2023 and Associate Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre from 2023 to 2024. His main contributions are in the area of CFD code development PARAS3D which is a Parallelised Cartesian mesh based code and is a workhorse for various flow problems in VSSC and other aerodynamic labs in the country.

He has also mentored the indigenous PRAVAHA unstructured body fitted mesh based solver which can run on both CPU and GPU cluster is also another important alternative to commercial CFD codes. He represented ISRO in the steering group of Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination committee from 2012 to 2017. He has made significant contributions to the successful missions of LVM3- Chandrayaan 3, Reusable Launch Vehicle technology demonstrator missions, Scramjet technology demonstrator missions , PSLV Aditya L1 mission , Test vehicle development projects, upcoming Gaganyaan missions and many others.
